DO YOUR RESEARCH:
There are many moving services out there that it might be hard to chose the right one. You should figure out what size move you have and plan to book with a moving company accordingly. If you have a mansion, it might make more sense to call one of the upper echelon van lines such as United, Atlas, etc. If you only have a bedroom's worth of stuff then we will probably be your best bet because our minimums are far lower than any of the bigger companies.
Avoid anyone who can't give you at least a rough estimate over the phone. NEVER book with any company that says "we'll just add up the total at the end" because these are your typical scammers who forget to mention a travel fee, mileage charges, overweight object charges, etc. Make sure your moving company is clear on everything.
Booking ahead can save you money because companies offer rates as a way of saying "thank you for not making us squeeze you in on our already busy schedule. It saves you money, but it also saves you energy as you will not be stressed because you know that you are all set and ready to go when the time is up. If you schedule with us in advance we will confirm with you multiple times as the move date approaches.
PACK AHEAD OF TIME:
We all charge for packing services! All companies do! If you are on a budget, then we encourage you to pack everything up ahead of time. This saves hours of labor charges which add up quickly. Not only will you save money but you will be more organized because you will know exactly where everything is when you are at your new place!
Although it might seem like companies don't like to have you help, we do. At the end of the day we are here to save you money. If you want to help us load your stuff then you can save money, time, and be at your new place faster than ever!
If you don't want to pay to move furniture that you will not use then we strongly suggest to sell it ahead of time so that it does not add to your cost on the moving day. Today's modern society has so many websites like, Ebay local, Offerup, Etsy, 5mile, Letgo, Nextdoor, and much more.
If nobody buys it you can at least put it up for free and see if there are any takers.
BAGS OVER BOXES:
Get some strong bags for your clothes and other not so fragile items. This will save you on the costs of boxes and might make your move that much more joyful.
GOODWILL, SALVATION ARMY, SAVERS, CONSIGNMENT STORES:
For those who want to get rid of furniture, but aren't seeking financial restitution then donating to a thrift store might be a great option. These items will be resold at a very affordable price for those in need. You will feel a sense of accomplishment for having helped the less fortunate. Boston Small Moves will gladly deliver your items for a very low cost to one of these donation centers if you help us load and unload.
Consignment stores are another option. These stores will sell your good looking furniture and take 50% of the sale price.
GOOD LUCK WITH YOUR MOVE & WE HOPE THESE MOVING TIPS HELPED!
